I'm having a bit of a creative crisis. I like 'RPG-lite' style skirmish games, but the other half of the Oathsworn team likes proper paper-and-pen RPGs. And I'm also spotting a worrying trend; every man and his dog is bringing out a miniatures skirmish game... there seems to be a new one every few days on Kickstarter. And I'm increasingly seeing comments like 'I like the minis, but I don't need another game...'
Which leaves me in a bit of a quandary; I think Ravensrodd would work as a straight-up RPG; no minis or scenery, just a Gamesmaster and the players. That would reduce the workload and costs dramatically; I wouldn't need moulds for 60 figures for a start. But, and this is a biggie, I am a sculptor. It's been my hobby for 15 years and my job for 13 of those. I like doing it.
That said, while Ravensrodd is a project I'm doing because I love the time period and the setting, it does need to be financially viable; while I'm working on it, I'm not working on other stuff that can pay the bills. So I'm currently wondering what to do with project... whether to change direction, and switch to a RPG; whether to slow down and just fit in the odd sculpt and bit of development work when I get spare time; or whether to forge on, finish it all, and hope that the Kickstarter is successful enough to pay for it.
Right now I just don't know...
